Investing in Capacity Ahead of Demand
To ensure Singapore’s continued growth as a vibrant global air hub and safeguard Singapore’s civil aviation interests, it is important for CAAS to think ahead. Adequate airport infrastructure has to be planned for and developed in anticipation of future air traffic demands. A prime example is the Changi East development, comprising a three-runway system, a new Terminal 5, as well as supporting infrastructure and transport links.
Through national-level land use planning, we safeguard land for Singapore’s long-term aviation needs. We also support our aerospace industries and improve the cost competitiveness of our air hub through effective land lease management.
To future-proof Changi Airport and ensure that it is correctly sized for Singapore’s needs, we work closely with all stakeholders to achieve optimal planning and design of key airport infrastructure.
CAAS closely oversees the implementation of key airport development projects to ensure works are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Finally, CAAS also administers the national Energy Conservation Act for the aviation sector, exercises oversight of energy efficiency and conservation initiatives in Changi Airport and undertakes resilience planning against the effects of climate change – so that our air hub will continue to grow in a sustainable way.
