The CAAS Conference Room welcomed a very different group of VIPs in the morning of 24 Dec 2009. Christmas Eve 2009 marked our first Kids @ Work programme. 40 children (ranging from the age of 3 – 12 years) of our staff enjoyed a privileged tour of their parents’ offices to an educational tour of Terminal 3 in Changi Airport. A handful of volunteers from Human Resource doubled up as tour guides for that morning, bringing them for a ride on the skytrain, which elicited great excitement from the little ones. Leisure aside, the children also attended workshops on sports and a cooking demonstration of “Sunshine Porridge”. Thereafter, they were taught the ropes on how to make a simple sandwich from various healthy ingredients like cucumber, berries and raisins. The workshop culminated in a sandwich competition to recognise some of the more creatively made sandwiches. Kids @ Work was well received by both participants and their children. Parents gave their thumbs up for the programme and indicated that they would definitely participate in the next Kids @ Work. Let’s hear what some had to say about Kids @ Work: Dhalila (Finance): “The walk @ Terminal 3 and the baking session was really interesting and fun. My kids really enjoyed it and they were even surprised to see the popular chef in person!” Shahidah (Human Resource): “Good interaction between the kids. Activities such as the cooking demo and games were well planned.” All in all, the Kids @ Work programme was concluded successfully as staff await in enthusiasm for the next session! What ‘Kids @ Work’ is all about
‘Kids @ Work’ creates an opportunity for children of our staff to be brought into the workplace so that they see and experience their parents’ working environment, and meet their colleagues. Fun and practical activities were also organised to facilitate parent and child bonding.
Besides helping to foster a family-friendly environment, it aims to promote work-life integration by encouraging our staff to develop a supportive network of relationships in life within and outside the organisation. This is one of the initiatives to make CAAS a great workplace for our staff. |
