CAAS and MOT Launch Aviation Video Competition

Competition seeks to engage youth to promote the value of aviation and its key contribution to Singapore’s economic progress

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the Ministry of Transport (MOT) are jointly organising an aviation video competition, themed “Planely Speaking – Your Great Aviation Story”. The competition is part of ongoing youth engagement efforts to increase awareness about the aviation industry in Singapore and its impact on Singapore’s economic progress. The video competition was officially launched at the Aviation Open House[1] today.

2          “Aviation connects Singapore to the world. It is a key contributor to our country’s success. Through this competition, we hope to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals, while deepening the appreciation of aviation’s important role in transforming the lives of Singaporeans,” said Mr Kevin Shum, Director-General, CAAS.

3          The competition is organised in conjunction with the biennial Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit (SAALS), which brings together top leaders in civil aviation from around the world to exchange views on the future of aviation. This summit will be held from 9 to 10 February 2020 at Pan Pacific Hotel.[2]

4          “Aviation continues to create economic and social benefits for communities around the world. SAALS 2020 will facilitate discussions between industry leaders on how the sector can meet future growth sustainably and safely,” said Mr Calvin Phua, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Transport, and Chairman of the SAALS 2020 Organising Committee.

5          Aimed at youth between 17 and 25, ‘Planely Speaking – Your Great Aviation Story’ calls for great aviation stories to be told through two-minute videos on how aviation has touched lives. (More competition details in the Annexes.)

6          Participating entries will stand a chance to win attractive prizes from Scoot, Singapore Airlines and Sony Singapore, which will include an exclusive flight simulator experience, return air tickets to anywhere on the Singapore Airlines or Scoot network, the latest Sony Alpha series cameras, and cash prizes.

7          The video competition will run from 15 August through 30 November 2019. Winners will be announced at SAALS 2020.
