CAAS and NUS Collaborate to Enhance Aviation Training
Collaboration will deliver programmes that allow aviation professionals to upskill
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly develop aviation programmes with the objective of enhancing the aviation workforce’s competencies in operational excellence and strategic thinking. The MOU was signed yesterday evening by Mr Kevin Shum, Director-General of CAAS, and Professor Tan Eng Chye, Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost of NUS.
Under the collaboration, CAAS’ training arm, the Singapore Aviation Academy, and the School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (SCALE) at NUS will jointly design, develop and deliver several new aviation courses tailored for aviation professionals looking to broaden their capabilities. These courses will cover wide-ranging areas such as Digital Airport Designs, Technology Innovation for Airports, Aviation Safety & Health Management, and Aviation Social Work & Ethics. Each of these courses will be about 40 hours in duration and conducted over a one-week period. The first course is expected to be launched in the second half of 2017.
The MOU also allows for the joint design, development and delivery of aviation-related undergraduate certificate programmes, the organisation of joint conferences and seminars, and joint research and studies in the areas of mutual interest.
Mr Kevin Shum, Director-General of CAAS, said, “This collaboration will help to ensure that aviation professionals are future-ready. By bringing together the complementary strengths of CAAS and NUS, we will be able to offer courses that are more relevant to the aviation community, facilitating upskilling whilst offering professional recognition and academic certification.”
Prof Tan Eng Chye, NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost, added, “SCALE is a new strategic thrust of NUS in which we leverage on the University’s knowledge and expertise to contribute towards promoting and expanding lifelong learning opportunities for working adults. We are delighted to partner CAAS to develop multi-disciplinary and industry-relevant programmes to raise the skills and capabilities of aviation professionals in Singapore.”
