CAAS Brings Aviation to the City and the Heartlands
The Heart of Aviation Gallery showcases Singapore aviation, its contributions to the nation, and the career opportunities it provides.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore’s (CAAS) year-long campaign to raise public awareness of Singapore aviation and promote aviation careers enters a new phase with the launch of the Heart of Aviation Gallery along Orchard Road today. The Gallery, which was opened by Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Transport, aims to project the dynamism and excitement of Singapore aviation and its careers. Throughout the month of June, another two Heart of Aviation Galleries will take flight in the heartlands for the public, especially the young and their families and friends, to discover Singapore aviation during the school holidays.
The Heart of Aviation Gallery along Orchard Road comprises four enclosed (air-conditioned) zones spread along the pedestrian walkway in front of ION Orchard. Through interactive displays in each of these zones, visitors will be treated to behind-the-scenes glimpses into Singapore’s dynamic aviation sector. They will also get to know aviation’s contributions to Singapore over the last 50 years and now, as well as the committed professionals, both pioneers and professionals today, who contribute to the vibrant Singapore aviation hub and their passion for aviation.
The four thematic zones in the Gallery are:
- Zone 1: Now Boarding highlights the key milestones in Singapore’s aviation history and offers a peek into its future.
- Zone 2: Ready for Takeoff takes visitors behind the scenes to discover what makes Changi Airport world class and how the aviation community ensures the safety of passengers.
- Zone 3: In Flight helps visitors understand the crucial role that our air traffic control agency and national airline play in providing a safe and pleasant flight experience for the travelling public.
- Zone 4: Air Cargo offers visitors interesting insights into the air cargo sector and the important role that it plays for many in their daily lives.
The Heart of Aviation Gallery at Orchard Road will be open daily from 8 June to 5 July 2015 between 11am and 9pm.
5 Two satellite Heart of Aviation Galleries will be open daily at Jurong Point from 18 to 23 June 2015 and Bedok Mall from 24 to 30 June 2015 between 11am and 9pm.
CAAS' year-long aviation promotion campaign kicked off this year with the mobile aviation exhibition bus, Heart of Aviation Explorer, in February. The Explorer has visited 14 schools and received over 9,000 visitors. It will next be at Changi Airport from 8 to 26 June. From there, it will continue its travel to more schools, as well as community spaces and events till the end of the year. The Aviation Open House, which will showcase education, career and job opportunities in aviation, will be back this year, from 13 to 15 August at the Suntec City Convention Centre.
