CAAS and SAFRA Trial Unmanned Aircraft Flying Areas at Four SAFRA Clubhouses

           From 3 August 2026 and for a period of six months, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and SAFRA will trial Unmanned Aircraft Flying Areas (UAFAs) at four SAFRA clubhouses at Choa Chu Kang, Mount Faber, Tampines and Toa Payoh. During the six-month trial, members of the public can fly their unmanned aircraft (UA) within selected futsal and squash courts that will be temporarily repurposed at these four SAFRA clubhouses during designated periods each week. The facilities will come equipped with features such as drone gates for users to sharpen their flying skills and enhance the flying experience.

2        Unlike the existing two UAFAs which are set up at open fields at Pandan Reservoir and Dover, the four new UAFAs are in enclosed facilities within the SAFRA clubhouses. The trial will explore how enclosed areas can be safely and meaningfully repurposed as designated UA flying spaces. If successful, CAAS plans to scale the number of such spaces across Singapore and make them more accessible to Singaporeans.

3        Mr Tan Chun Wei, Director of Unmanned Systems Technology, Engineering and Planning, CAAS, said, “This trial is a significant step in facilitating recreational flying of UA in Singapore. If successful, it will allow CAAS to provide more community spaces for safe UA flying, enabling more people to enjoy it as a recreational activity and enhance their flying skills."

4        Ms Lyndia Tan, Director of Club Management & Events, SAFRA, said, “The usage of UA is a growing hobby in Singapore. The trial will enable national servicemen and their families to try out UA flying and hone their skills at our clubs. It also gives us a chance to gauge interest among our members for more of such activities and explore how spaces within our clubs can be used more flexibly to cater to varied interests.”

5        The operating hours of the repurposed trial sites are listed in the Annex. All members of the public may book slots free of charge via SAFRA's mobile app or web portal (https://m.safra.sg). More information will be made available on the SAFRA website. Signage with information on UA regulations and operating guidelines will also be put up on-site at the SAFRA clubhouses to raise awareness and educate users on safe flying and good practices to observe in using the space.
