CAAS Hosts Inaugural ICAO Trainair Plus Global Symposium
25 September 2012
Close to 400 participants gather in Singapore to discuss aviation’s training and human resource development challenges
The inaugural International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) TRAINAIR PLUS Global Symposium, hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), kicked off in Singapore today. Mr Pang Kin Keong, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, delivered the welcome address. A video message from Mr Raymond Benjamin, ICAO Secretary-General, was also shown at the opening of the Symposium.
Themed “How to prepare tomorrow’s aviation workforce with today’s training tools”, the Symposium provides a platform for the exchange of views on the challenges as well as the latest trends, techniques and best practices in aviation training worldwide. Over four days, participants will also address competency-based training, human resource development and partnerships for training. The Symposium also seeks to increase awareness of ICAO’s TRAINAIR PLUS Programme.
The TRAINAIR PLUS Programme aims to strengthen the international aviation training network by supporting ICAO Member States in implementing high quality aviation training, using the latest available training technology and tools. Under the Programme, TRAINAIR PLUS full members develop and share competency-based Standardised Training Packages (STPs) that offer more cost-effective training.
At the Symposium today, ICAO presented certificates to seven training organisations that were recently certified as full members of the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme. This included the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA), the training arm of CAAS. This certification attests to SAA’s high standards in aviation training. It also affirms SAA’s commitment to advance training and development of the next generation of aviation professionals globally.
The ICAO TRAINAIRPLUS Global Symposium is being held from 25 to 28 September at the Raffles City Convention Centre.
