Requirement for UA Basic Training
If you operate an Unmanned Aircraft (UA) weighing more than 1.5kg and up to 7kg for recreational or educational purposes, you must complete a one-time UA Basic Training conducted by a CAAS-approved UA Basic Training organisation.
You must be at least 16 years old at the point of flying a UA.
Exemption
You do not need UA Basic Training if you fly your UA indoors and the area is not publicly accessible.
This exemption does not apply if the event has more than 50 people at any time.
Purpose of UA Basic Training
UA Basic Training provides basic theoretical knowledge to help you operate your UA safely.
The course takes about 2 hours.
After completing it, you will receive a UA Basic Training Certificate.
How to sign up for UA Basic Training
You may sign up with any CAAS-approved UA Basic Training Organisation.
Note: CAAS does not regulate the fees charged by UABTOs which may vary.
Failure to comply is an offence as summarised by the table below:
