Airports Council International World and CAAS to Train Aviation Professionals on Climate Change and Aviation Sustainability

27 May 2024

Launched inaugural five-day course targeting middle managers

Airports Council International (ACI) World and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) will work together to train aviation professionals and equip them with the necessary know-how and competencies to lead effective climate actions to prioritise the sustainability of aviation sectors around the world.

2       For a start, ACI World and CAAS have jointly launched the inaugural Climate Change and Aviation Sustainability course targeting middle-management aviation professionals from around the world. Conducted by the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA), the training arm of CAAS, the five-day course will feature distinguished international experts and cover a broad range of topics including adaptation measures and sustainability roadmaps. Through interactive lectures with case studies, discussions, and learning journeys, the course will help middle managers develop strategies, implementation plans and industry initiatives.

3       The inaugural course will be held in Singapore from 14 to 18 October 2024. ACI World and CAAS will jointly review the response and feedback before launching subsequent runs and other courses. This is the first course jointly launched by ACI World and CAAS following a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in May 2022 to conduct research and studies and develop and deliver training for aviation professionals.

4        Mr Han Kok Juan, Director-General of CAAS said, “As more aviation sectors around the world pursue sustainable aviation as a priority area, growing the pool of aviation professionals with the necessary knowhow, competencies and networks across countries and between public and private sectors will help develop and drive effective climate actions. CAAS is honoured to partner with ACI World on this course to contribute to this important effort.”

5        Mr Luis Felipe de Oliveira, Director General and CEO of ACI World said, “This joint course offering demonstrates the collaborative efforts of ACI World and CAAS to promote and help develop the specific skills needed to implement social, environmental, and economic strategies for aviation sustainability. Singapore is leading airport sustainability efforts in the region as seen with their Airhub Blueprint launched earlier this year. Through this training partnership, we anticipate that aviation professionals will be encouraged to develop their own sustainability practices and gain the confidence to make a difference in their respective roles. Every action counts in tackling climate change.”

6       Enrolment for the course is now open. For more information and enrolment procedures, visit: https://www.caas.gov.sg/saa/saa-programmes/programme-details/Climate-Change-and-Aviation-Sustainability
