Flight Crew Licensing and Examination

Flight tests are carried out regularly by either CAAS Safety Inspectors, or Authorised Flight Examiners (employees of an organisation appointed by CAAS) to assess the competency of pilots holding a Singapore flight crew licence.

There are two categories of Flight Examiners:

  1. Authorised Flight Examiner (AFE) who conducts flight tests on behalf of CAAS.

  2. Senior Authorised Flight Examiner (SAFE) who conducts surveillance checks on AFEs to ensure safety oversight. All SAFEs are also concurrently appointed as AFEs and carry out AFE duties.
