Junior Airport Fire Officers

You will gain the competencies to manage incidents related to dangerous goods and hazardous material safely. This programme is developed in accordance with ICAO and IATA’s regulations for Dangerous Goods, (e.g. IATA’s Dangerous Goods Regulations manual).

There are 4 modules in this programme:

Aircraft Hazards, Foaming Agents and Radio Telephony
Operations and Techniques
Fire-fighting Techniques and Tactics

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the programme, you will be able to:

  • Strengthen application of the different techniques and tactics in Aircraft Rescue and Fire-fighting (ARFF)
  • Conduct rescue operations adeptly and confidently
  • Manage Dangerous Goods and hazmat materials incidents effectively
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of ARFF subjects

  • Hazmat overview, recognition and identification, operations and decontamination
  • Mitigation of Hazmat and response to Hazmat incidents.

Aircraft Hazards, Foaming Agents and Radio Telephony

  • General concepts of airframe structures and engine
  • Hazards of helicopters and fire-fighting rescue procedures
  • F-16 Hydrazine procedures
  • ICAO rescue fire-fighting and critical area concept
  • Foaming agents and application of foam on aircraft fires
  • General Concepts of Theory of Flight Airframe Structures & Engines

Operations and Techniques

  • Aircraft virtual interior simulator
  • Smoke hazards, ventilation and fire behaviour
  • Breathing apparatus proficiency training
  • Bulk fuel storage and liquefied petroleum gas
  • Hands-on training to rescue trapped occupants from lifts and escalators
  • Overview of road tunnel rescue and fire-fighting techniques

Fire-fighting Techniques and Tactics

  • Aircraft internal fires
  • Structural fire-fighting with rollover fires
  • Aircraft landing gear and engine fire-fighting
  • Full scale aircraft fire-fighting and casualty triage
  • Night aircraft crash fire-fighting
  • Confined space search and rescue operations
