Establishment of Restricted Area during 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) will establish a Restricted Area under the Air Navigation Order (ANO) as shown in the map at Annex A during the following dates and timings:

  • 18 Sep, 12 noon to 19 Sep, 2am;
  • 19 Sep, 12 noon to 20 Sep, 2am;
  • 20 Sep, 12 noon to 21 Sep, 2am; and
  • 21 Sep, 12 noon to 12 midnight

This is for low level helicopter flights conducting aerial filming of the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.

For the Restricted Area during the stated dates and timings, the flying of unmanned aircraft is prohibited within and into the area. Unmanned aircraft being flown in the vicinity of the low-flying helicopter may interfere with its operations, posing a danger to the helicopter as well as people and property on the ground. There has recently been a proliferation of off-the-shelf and self-assembled unmanned aircraft, and the use of unmanned aircraft for aerial filming and photography; this is expected to continue. The establishment of the Restricted Area is to ensure the safety of the helicopter and the public.

The flying of unmanned aircraft within and into a Restricted Area is an offence. If convicted, a person in the first instance can be fined up to S$20,000 and in subsequent instances up to S$40,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 15 months.

Information on the Restricted Area to be established during the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix is also available on www.caas.gov.sg.
